Refurbishment/Heritage Works

The University of Sydney engaged Belmadar to carry out the external façade and roof rectification of the Edward Ford Building, a heritage building constructed firstly in the 1930s and then added to in the 1950s. To minimise the impact on the university's day-to-day operations and to be able to isolate construction works, the project was broken up into two stages. Façade rectification works included: repairs to window lintel cracks, movement cracks, window sill cracks, stucco render, external stairs, stonework and stone architraves, plus refurbishment of steel windows and door frames. The roof rectification works included the staged removal of the entire roof to mitigate the effects of inclement weather on the building. The suitable original roof tiles and cappings were salvaged and reused in the more visual faces of the roof. All new tiles were then matched to existing ones.
