Belmadar is leading a key heritage restoration project of the Institute Building in partnership with the University of Sydney. This project centres on the H03 Institute Building, a site of historical importance that originally functioned as a charitable institution. Throughout the years, the building has adapted to serve various purposes, including its use by the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II, illustrating its versatility in meeting the evolving needs of the community and the nation.

Belmadar's scope of work includes addressing the significant water egress caused by global weather changes. In collaboration with hydraulic consultants, Belmadar is updating the building's rainfall distribution systems to better handle environmental challenges.

The importance of this project extends beyond the technical restoration. The building is located in Darlington, an inner-city suburb closely tied to the University of Sydney. Restoring this landmark not only preserves a piece of Sydney's heritage but also strengthens its connection with the community. Belmadar is managing this project with sensitivity, as it is a live environment that houses the American Institute faculty. The work is being conducted in two stages, planned around university exams and summer school schedules, to minimize disruption. Additionally, Belmadar has proposed innovative and non-invasive restoration methods to ensure the building’s long-term preservation in line with the University’s Construction Management Plan.

By restoring this heritage site, Belmadar is not only safeguarding a key piece of Sydney’s architectural legacy but also contributing to the broader cultural fabric of the community, reinforcing the University’s historical prominence and its role within the city.
